Making a simple syrup out of Frontier Co-op hibiscus petals allows you to make this refreshing single serve lemonade. Leftover hibiscus syrup can be added to iced teas, drizzle some over your oatmeal, pancakes or even on some ice cream. (Thank you to our friend Stacey Swanson for creating this wonderful recipe.)
Ingredients
-
Hibiscus Simple Syrup
1 cup of Wholesome organic sugar (more for sugaring the rim of your glass)
1 cup of filtered water
1/2-3/4 cup of Frontier Co-op hibiscus petals
Single Serve Lemonade
3-4 tablespoons of freshly squeezed lemon juice
1 can of unsweetened carbonated water of choice (I used pineapple flavor)
*you can also use your favorite store bought lemonade or your own lemonade recipe and just add a little bit of simple syrup to taste in each glass.
*Optional
Frontier Co-op crystallized ginger slice *fresh mint garnish
Directions
1. Combine the cup of sugar and water along with the hibiscus petals in a small saucepan. Heat until it simmers then turn off the heat and let it steep like you would tea for about 15 minutes. Strain after 15 minutes.
2. To assemble: Dip the rim of your glass in some lemon juice or water and then dip the rim in sugar. Fill the glass with ice. Add in the lemon juice and 2-3 tablespoons or to sweetness of hibiscus simple syrup. Top off the glass with fizzy water of choice. Garnish with a ginger slice.
3. Slowly eat the ginger slice in between sips of your lemonade. It tastes amazing together.
