Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups Frontier Co-opĀ® Calendula Flower Petals
- 2 cups (16 fluid ounces) Aura CaciaĀ® Almond Oil or Jojoba Oil (enough to fully cover flowers in jar)
- 1 ounce Frontier Co-opĀ® Beeswax Beads or Beeswax Block
- 96 drops Aura CaciaĀ® Lavender Essential Oil
- You Will Also Need:
- 1 pint glass jar with lid
- Cheesecloth
- Double boiler or heat source
- Storage tins or small jars for finished salve
Directions
- In pint jar, place calendula flowers and add almond or jojoba oil to fully cover flowers.
- Put lid on jar, then place jar in a water bath on low heat for 2 hours. Allow to cool. Heat over low heat for 2 additional hours, and allow to cool once again. Note: You can repeat this process several times over 24 to 48 hours for a stronger extraction.
- When cooled the final time, strain out flowers through a double layer of cheesecloth over a bowl; squeeze calendula in cheesecloth to extract as much oil as possible.
- Measure out 1 cup of infused oil and pour into top of a double boiler. Add beeswax and heat over low heat until beeswax is melted, stirring occasionally.
- Remove from heat and stir in lavender essential oil.
- Immediately pour mixture into sterilized jars or tins of your choosing.
