Your Summer Wedding Guest Checklist

Travel, welcome dinner, wedding, reception, farewell brunch… with so many events to prepare for, packing can seem overwhelming. No worries! Our step-by-step wedding guest checklist will help you remember all the major must-haves, as well as those small personal-care and beauty essentials you’ll rely on to look and feel your best.

Make a list of all the scheduled events and select what you’ll wear for each, keeping the weather forecast in mind. Wow, how can you possibly fit all that clothing in one suitcase?! Perhaps it’s time to simplify your selections…. 

Be practical; the outfit you wear to the wedding is the most important, since a gazillion photos will be taken and you could be wearing it for hours at the reception. Make sure it’s appropriate attire for the dress code. Develop all other necessary outfits with four key mix-and-match pieces, so you can create a variety of looks in a heartbeat: slacks, skirt, blouse or tank, jacket or sweater.

Pack your chosen attire in a garment bag to prevent wrinkles, and then focus on these essentials:

• Footwear for dress-up, dancing, and walking
• Undergarments. If you wear stockings, bring an extra pair.
• Coordinating jewelry and other accessories
• A few safety pins or fashion tape, for potential wardrobe disasters
• Hair styling tools and accessories. (Most hotels provide a hair dryer but check before leaving home without one.)

Whew! You’re practically on your way! But, not so fast… the next step can be mind boggling, especially if you’re traveling by plane and trying to minimize the number of bags you’re checking. Let’s face it, the more you rely on those checked bags, the greater the likelihood they won’t show up when you do.

There are several items you simply cannot do without. These are the things travel nightmares are made of, so it’s best to get them all lined up and ready to roll before you leave home. Always keep them within reach when in transit.

• All your medications. Be sure to transport these in the prescribed container. If traveling abroad, if at all possible, bring along an authorized prescription.
• Two forms of personal identification. These should include a valid driver’s license or other state photo identity card issued by Department of Motor Vehicles, Enhanced Driver's License, U.S. passport or U.S. passport card, DHS trusted traveler cards (Global Entry, NEXUS, SENTRI, FAST). Because the list of acceptable IDs is subject to change without notice, TSA strongly encourages you to check the required list again before traveling.
• Chargers & adapters for your phone and other electronics. Though you can probably purchase these at your destination, it could be quite an inconvenience.

Once all the BIG essentials are taken care of, let’s get down to the nitty gritty of travel packing. Don’t underestimate their importance. These are the “little” items that ensure you’re well-prepared for nearly every event, providing you with a sense of confidence and comfort, so you can relax and enjoy the festivities.
